In late 2007, The Joint Commission’s Board of Commissioners recommended retiring and replacing the Pregnancy and Related Conditions (PR) measure set with an expanded set of evidenced-based measures. A technical advisory panel (TAP) comprising experts in the perinatal care field was convened in February 2009 to select the replacement set of measures from among those endorsed for national use by the National Quality Forum. This expanded measure set, now referred to as Perinatal Care (PC) comprises the following measures (click on the word and it will take you to the JC link):
The CPCC has decided to focus on 4 of the 5 above initiatives (Elective Birth, Antenatal Steriods, Bloodstream infections in Newborns and Breastfeeding). The Joint Commission has identified these very important measures in order to improve the care of all mothers and babies in the US. The role of the CPCC is to help the different hospitals and organizations to fulfill their goals using both evidence based data as well as community resources. In addition, CPCC will servc as a facilitator to help achieve your goals through our available resources and will offer coaching if needed.
